Multicultural Books
It is simply amazing how many multicultural books there are to read! I wish these wonderful books had been out when I was in school.
The opportunities to learn about the many different cultures in America are astounding! I have found books about Asian Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans.
These multicultural books are in order by age groups. Just like books being in order by grade level, age groups are only a suggestion of where to start when choosing a book. The best guidelines are you and your child.

After reading some multicultural books with your child, discuss them and compare those cultures to your own. I think you'll find more similarities than differences.
Multicultural books are a great window into other cultures. They are also a great way to see that we are all people who want to get along with other people.
A great concept that is easy to explore with multicultural books is the Cinderella story. The Cinderella story has been told in many different countries. Ruth Heller has written a series of Cinderella stories to begin your exploration!
