About Me

This is a little information about me and the journey that brought me to becoming the author of this website.

My name is Susan Howard and I am a former classroom teacher. I taught grades 2 through 7 over a period of ten years.

I taught all subjects, however I strongly feel that the skill of being able to understand what you are reading and process the information is the foundation for success in all school subjects.

While teaching I was concerned for students who didn’t enjoy reading. I found out reading hadn’t been a part of their lives before they began school and unless it was a school assignment, they didn’t read anything just for fun or to learn more on their own about a topic that interested them.

While students and I spent time in our classroom together I made every attempt to find out why they didn’t like reading, what they would like to read about, and how to make reading an enjoyable part of their lives.

Many of my former students discovered the joy that reading could bring into their lives. The learned about places they could travel and successes they could achieve in all subjects just by improving their reading skills.

While teaching brought great joy to my life, the stresses of being a classroom teacher did not and after ten years, I left the classroom. I may return, but now I have started this web site in hopes of bringing the joy of reading to children and their families.

My wonderful husband, Patrick and I live in Tomball, Texas. At his website TheBizTutor.com he helps people to achieve their goals of starting their own business.

Our terrific son, Jason lives in San Marcos and is currently attending Texas State University.

Our purrrfect cats, Sara and Abby bring joy and laughter into our lives everyday. They are great sunshine followers for their naps.

One thing my friends know about me is that my favorite authors are Debbie Macomber and Jennifer Chiaverini. I love talking about the stories they write and because of me, some of my friends have started reading their books!

Debbie Macomber writes many series and one that I have enjoyed is the Cedar Cove series. They are about friendships in the small town of Cedar Cove, Washington.

Jennifer Chiaverini writes the Elm Creek Quilt series. This is a wonderful series about a group of women who open a Quilt Camp in an old estate. Reading these books you learn alot about the history of quilts and the meaning behind quilt patterns. You also spend time with a great group of friends!
